The Fisherman

The fisherman
has had
sixteen years
of experience
reeling them in
with plastic promises
floating seduction
and careful fingers

he was primed
to cast out his line
for the fearless one
swimming beneath him

she broke through the surface
for a breath
he slid his hook out from her mouth
and threw her back
